The Fretz Family Association has Dr. Jim Diamond, as our 2011 Reunion Speaker.  Come hear Dr. Diamond’s presentation in St. Matthew’s Fellowship Hall, Kellers Church, Perkasie, PA on Saturday, August 6, 2011. 

 

Speaker: Dr. Jim Diamond “Domestic Animal Bells From Around the World.

Text Box: Dr. Jim Diamond will be the featured speaker at the Fretz Family Association Reunion on Saturday,  August 6th, 2011.   Dr. Diamond is retired after 47 years from Delaware Valley College as dean of Agriculture and Environmental sciences.  A farmer, educator and international consultant, Diamond has traveled in 50 countries on five continents.  Dr. Diamond has a strong farm and animal background and an agricultural educator.  He has worked overseas for more than 10 years where he began collecting domestic animal bells in countries around the world.  He has 77 bells from 24 countries on five continents.  The collection includes bells made from various metals and woods for cows, sheep, horses, llamas, water buffalo, oxen, turkeys, camels, donkeys, mules, elephants, yaks, goats, cats and dogs.  Dr. Diamond will exhibit and rang different animal bells for members and decendents of the Fretz Family on 6 August 2011.

Text Box: Dr. Diamond is the author of “Domestic Animal Bells From Around the World“.  Jim has a fascination with the history and purpose of animal bells to manage farm herds and flocks.  He has studied the history, and the farm practicality, of such bells.  He has traveled extensively as a 10-year agricultural and extension education consultant for the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations and United States Agency for International Development.  

Jim is also the author of “I Did What I Had to Do”.  A book about the experiences of Jim and his wife, Betty, who spent two years as Peace Corps volunteers in Chad.
